Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney

Senator Stephen Sweeney has served as President of the New Jersey Senate for five years. He has been a leader on the most important state issues, passing laws to increase the minimum wage, allowing Paid Family Leave, establishing Marriage Equality, setting a two-percent cap on annual property tax increases, and promoting equal educational opportunity through the Dream Act.

Senator Sweeney has fought to create jobs and economic opportunity for everyone. John J. Burzichelli, a lifelong resident of New Jersey, grew up in Paulsboro, Gloucester County, where he currently resides. Mr. Burzichelli served as Mayor of Paulsboro from 1996 to 2011 and began his legislative career in January of 2002, serving as State Assemblyman. Assemblyman Burzichelli is currently an Assembly Deputy Speaker.

Burzichelli is managing partner of Hill Studio and Scenic in Paulsboro which provides studio services and special effects to the motion picture, video and still photography industry. He is one of the founding members of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Paulsboro, and a former President of the Greater Paulsboro Chamber of Commerce.

Constituent Corner-                      Code Blue Programs Assist Residents in Need of Shelter

The Code Blue Initiative is designed to provide shelter for homeless individuals and residents without sufficient accommodations when temperatures drop below freezing. The Code Blue Season runs from November 1st through April 15th, with designated “warming centers” operating between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am.
When a Code Blue alert is issued, volunteers collaborate with police, emergency medical services, the County Health Department and Human Services, and the state Office of Emergency Management to prepare warming centers and identify individuals who may be in need of shelter.
