Sweeney joins in ribbon cutting for Salem Community College facility

South Jersey Times – Senate President Steve Sweeney recently joined in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the 2017 George Reese Community Room at Salem Community College.

The facility is sponsored by the Salem County Chamber of Commerce and each year named for an individual for his or her contribution to the community.

“This unique project highlights the outstanding work of residents in the county, and also serves to inspire others to make a positive difference in whatever way they can,” said Senator Sweeney. “For Salem Community College students, the George Reese Community Room will serve as a space to promote all the county has to offer, including the businesses that are located in the area and the kinds of job opportunities that are available upon graduation. I want to congratulate this year’s award recipient and look forward to seeing great things to come from each class of SCC graduates.”

The 2017 George Reese Chamber of Commerce Community Room is located in Salem Community College’s Donaghay Hall. Mr. Reese, who serves as President of the Henry D. Young Insurance Company, a third-generation, family owned and operated businesses, was named the 2017 Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Salem County Chamber of Commerce.

“We are proud to host the George Reese Community Room and to work in coordination with the Chamber on this endeavor,” said Salem Community College President Dr. Michael R. Gorman. “I want to thank Senate President Sweeney for his support for this effort and for his leadership in working to make college affordable and accessible to more residents in South Jersey and statewide, which will help ensure that we have a strong workforce that a 21st Century economy requires.”

The Salem County Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the Community Room at Salem Community College as a way to market all that is wonderful about Salem County to students and their parents, encouraging students to choose Salem County as the best place to live and work after they complete their education.
